About Us

Founded in 1999, the Institute has been at the forefront of both developing and teaching a unique approach to craniosacral practice called Process-based Craniosacral Therapy. This reflects the emphasis that the Institute places on understanding and engaging with the embodied emotional and experiential processes that underly many clinical conditions. The training is firmly grounded in the biodynamic principles of William Garner Sutherland, who discovered the Primary Respiratory System, whilst expanding his work through integrating contributions from other teachers and disciplines. These include the bioenergetic discoveries of Wilhelm Reich in the psychotherapeutic tradition, an understanding of the formative experiences in the womb and at birth as developed in pre and perinatal psychology and the use of sensations and imagery as a tool to explore internal energetic processes. The development of this approach reflects the combined clinical and teaching experience of the Institute's principals and course tutors.

'...the fluctuation of the cerebrospinal fluid has a potency with an Intelligence, as I found out. The potency is an invisible "fluid" within the cerebrospinal fluid. The potency of the Tide is what we have to consider...'
William Garner Sutherland
