Tutors - Matthew Appleton

In his mid-teens Matthew had an experience that threw the nature of the reality he had been educated to accept into question. Since then he has been deeply interested in the relationship between consciousness, the body and the human energy system. This led him to train as a Body Psychotherapist and later as a Core Process Psychotherapist. He trained as a Craniosacral Therapist in the mid-90’s and has a busy practice in Bristol seeing both Craniosacral and Psychotherapy clients.

Matthew has a long-standing interest in working with babies, children and adolescents. For ten years he worked as a houseparent at A.S. Neill’s famous Summerhill School and is the author of the book A Free-Range Childhood, which has been published in several languages. He has lectured internationally on working with children and is on the board of directors of the Institute for Pre and Perinatal Education in the United States.

His passion for his work and his sense of humour are reflected in his teaching style. He is very supportive of students finding their own way of embodying the work as they move towards graduation.

Alongside his teaching and clinical practice Matthew is an avid writer. He has had many articles, as well as short stories and poems, published. When he is not working he enjoys long walks in nature and feels a deep affinity with stone circles and other sacred sites.
